ABOUT FARM JERSEY

The past Minister for EDTSC, Senator Lyndon Farnham, launched ‘Farm Jersey’, a new initiative to add impetus to both the agricultural and aquaculture industries within the island’s rural economy in November 2016.

Farm Jersey’s objective is to help increase profitability and productivity and assist businesses to market a range of rural goods and services, both at home and overseas. This will allow businesses, in partnership with Government, to realise their potential and achieve economic and environmental sustainability vital to engaging future generations as the custodians of our key rural industries.

Jersey Product Promotion 2017 Limited (JPPL), a government funded membership organisation responsible for the successful Genuine Jersey brand will accommodate Farm Jersey within a modified structure. This will enhance JPPL’s prime function to support exports of both agricultural and aquaculture products and through its links with Genuine Jersey increase local sales.

Farm Jersey is a non-profit making organisation that acts as a forum for the exchange of information, both between exporters and from exporters to government which is funded by the Government of Jersey through JPPL.

Farm Jersey aims to encourage businesses into exporting, by bringing together experienced exporters and those with little or no experience and to positively help experienced exporters develop their export performance.

Farm Jersey seeks to facilitate the transfer of exporting knowledge from those that have it, to those that need it.

The objectives of Farm Jersey are to:

·  Stimulate interest in export,

·  Encourage the exchange of exporting knowledge and experience,

·  Provide opportunities to seek/offer advice with experienced speakers,

·  Come together to learn from each other’s international trade experiences,

·  Access relevant export support services,

·  Make collective views known, to relevant bodies, on issues affecting export,

·  Coordinate and assist with export drives,

·  Coordinate and assist with overseas trade shows,

·  Coordinate a programme of events relating to the different aspects of export,

·  Organise the annual Jersey Farming Conference.

“The future of our rural sector, be it based on land or sea is in the development of local and export markets. By creating Farm Jersey within JPPL we aim to increase sales, profitability and productivity across the sector. In doing so, Farm Jersey will work with other organisations to promote all that is good about our island’s produce. In addition, Farm Jersey will engage with existing businesses and the next generation of stakeholders across the sector to deliver a sustainable future for this vital industry”.
